Sinus Lift

What is a Sinus Lift?

A sinus lift (also called sinus augmentation) is a procedure that adds bone to the upper jaw in the area of the molars and premolars. The maxillary sinus is gently lifted upward, and bone graft material is placed beneath it to create enough height and thickness of bone for dental implants.

Why is a Sinus Lift Needed?

The back part of the upper jaw often has less natural bone compared to other areas of the mouth. Bone loss can occur from missing teeth, gum disease, or natural anatomy of the sinus. Without enough bone, dental implants may not be secure. A sinus lift makes it possible to place implants safely and predictably in this area.

Benefits of Sinus Lift Surgery:

  • Creates a strong foundation for dental implants.
  • Improves long-term stability and success of implants.
  • Allows patients who were once told they don’t have enough bone to now receive implants.
  • Restores the ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence.
